Why AMCP?

AMCP is a professional association of pharmacists and students that serve patients and the population through the promotion of safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy.

As a student organization, AMCP provides unique and unparalleled events, including networking events such as Kaiser Night and Building Bridges, professional development through managed care education and speaker events, community service to retirees through Medicare Part D enrollment, and the national P&T competition. AMCP aims to provide value to all student pharmacists, regardless of their path in pharmacy, but also provide opportunity to diversify.

USC has a proud history of success on the national level with AMCP's Annual P&T Competition. Teams of four are asked to evaluate a medication and make a recommendation on whether or not it should be covered on a formulary. This competition prepares competitors for not only managed care, but also for inpatient and residency level projects. The team representing USC has placed in the Top 3 in five times in the last eight years, where over 60 chapters compete nationwide.

Last year, our Medicare Part D Enrollment Program took place virtually. With the help of our student pharmacists, we saved retirees a total of $40,000 and held consultations with 50 different retirees! A huge thank you to our preceptors and student pharmacists for taking time out of their busy schedules to assist with enrollment week!

USC was proudly featured in US World News for the work done by students and preceptors in AMCP's Medicare Part D enrollment program. Students assist seniors/retirees in helping save them thousands per year by guiding them through their medications and assisting them in selecting and enrolling in the most cost-effective plan. AMCP holds training sessions for students to do this as well, guided by geriatric pharmacist Dr. Williams.

PMCP

PMCP introduces pre-pharmacy students from different undergraduate universities to managed care pharmacy, as well as what it is like to be a pharmacy student at USC.

AMCP connects these undergraduates with our AMCP members, who act as mentors from the USC School of Pharmacy, and AMCP holds mock-interviews and guidance for pharmacy school via mentor-mentee socials.

Managed Care Speaker Series

AMCP hosts a multitude of managed care speaker series events of which distinguished guests are invited to speak about their experiences in the field. USC students are given the opportunity to get an inside look on what a career in managed care truly entails and how their future in pharmacy may be impacted by managed care. Education about managed care is often taught in the classroom - AMPC is proud to empower and inspire its members with events like these.

Through our virtual event, students were in breakout rooms with distinguished guests/pharmacists. It was a great opportunity for students to build their knowledge and maintain connections.
